Our Ingredients

We work hard to source fair trade, sustainably and ethically harvested ingredients to make our products. This has taken months of research and countless hours but we are proud to make all of our products with ingredients that support small scale agriculture and utilize existing resources to reduce our impact on the planet. Please read on to learn about the beneficial personal skin care ingredients and natural base oils found in our products.

Tallow- One of our favorite soaping oils, this wonderful ingredient has been used for centuries to promote smooth, healthy, moisturized skin. Tallow is derived from delicately rendering the nutrient-dense suet, or fat, that surrounds the organs of ruminant animals, most notably their kidneys. These fats, in addition to proteins, are the essential building blocks of every cell membrane, including the skin. Tallow shares many of the same lipids found in the sebum of healthy human skin, making it an ideal addition to heal dry, flaky skin at a cellular level without suffocating the skin’s natural protective barrier.

We render our tallow in-house and source the suet directly from a small, local family farm that raise their grass-fed cattle where they are free to roam, humanely raised and never treated with antibiotics or growth hormones. Often discarded as a waste product in the meat processing industry, our utilization of this oil reduces waste and adds value to the life of the animal ultimately sacrificed for human consumption.

Tallow is high in the essential fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K and also contains several antioxidants including vitamin E, well known for it’s rejuvenating, free radical fighting properties. Tallow makes a wonderfully hard, long lasting bar of soap, won't clog pores, and can help improve inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Our tallow has not been bleached, deodorized, hydrogenated, or altered in any way.

Olive Oil- This incredible oil has long been prized for it’s high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties that produce naturally glowing skin. The polyphenolic compounds found within this oil help reduce oxidative stress to cells, boost even skin tone, increase collagen production, promote elasticity, and help reduce wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation in the skin. Its antimicrobial properties can help in the treatment of skin infections or wounds. It also helps repair our skin cells naturally by improving circulation and penetrating deep into the layers of skin to deliver important nutrients such as vitamins A, K and E to help improve cell regeneration and help heal dry, scaly skin and existing scars.

Virgin Coconut Oil- This super cleansing oil contains a variety of fatty acids, polyphenols, proteins, and lipoproteins, which have several benefits for maintaining healthy skin. These ingredients have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties that can help cure common skin infections, soothe eczema & psoriasis, and help with the healing of minor scrapes and cuts. The saturated fat in coconut oil hydrates the skin naturally and helps the skin retain moisture for extended periods. Its high vitamin E content helps repair and regenerate skin tissue and supports the protective barrier functions of your skin.

Unrefined Shea Butter- Our shea butter is unrefined, leaving intact many essential vitamins and nutrients that deliver rich benefits to your skin. It is also high in phenols, the same antioxidants found in green tea, and helps fight fine lines & wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and uneven skin tone. Praised for centuries for it’s skin protecting properties, unrefined shea butter is non-comedogenic and is a preferred natural moisturizer for individuals who are often prone to acne or eczema.

Cocoa Butter- This wonderful moisturizer is one of our favorite additions to our handmade soaps, salves, and crèmes. It adds a rich, creamy lather that nourishes and moisturizes your skin and leaves it feeling smooth and rejuvenated. Rich in stearic acid, as well as vitamins A & E, cocoa butter penetrates deep into the top layer and the underlying dermis layer of the skin to provide long lasting moisture and skin protecting properties. Often praised for its ability to prevent stretch marks and heal existing scar tissue, cocoa butter is the perfect addition to moisturizing creams and soaps.

Marula Oil- Extracted from the kernels of the fruit of the marula tree, marula oil has been used in Southern Africa for centuries to promote healthy, glowing skin. This light, easily absorbed oil contains the highest proportions of plant-based oleic acid (70-78%) found in nature as well as linoleic acid (4-7%) making it an ideal oil for improved skin hydration. Our virgin, unrefined, ethically harvested marula oil is high in antioxidants and tocopherols, as well as vitamins C & E, and has soothing effects on epidermal inflammation all while helping restore the natural moisture balance of our skin. This oil has been praised for its ability to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and age spots and provides defense against environmental, free radical damage to your skin.

Argan Oil- A versatile oil, often praised as “liquid gold”, our virgin, unrefined argan oil is harvested from the nuts of the argan tree which grows exclusively in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in southwestern Morocco. This rare oil is high in oleic (omega 9) and linoleic (omega 6) fatty acids, both of which reduce inflammation and acne, increase the moisture content of skin, and can help improve the permeability of the skin to help other nourishing ingredients penetrate more easily. Often used to help treat dermatitis, eczema, and minor wounds, the triterpenoids found in this powerful oil are credited with eliminating age spots and scarring as well as healing stubborn dry skin patches and rejuvenating damaged cells.
